Today I opened my mailbox in Colorado and found something I haven’t seen in years:
a handwritten letter — with a real check inside.
From none other than Uncle Tim Sackett.
Tim brought me out to speak at the Michigan Recruiters Conference, and apparently he’s so old-school he literally mailed the payment like it’s 1998.
And honestly?
It’s the perfect reminder about pattern disruption in recruiting.
We spend so much time talking about AI sourcing, automation, sequences, and candidate intent…but sometimes it’s the unexpected human moment that actually cuts through the noise.
A handwritten letter.
A real stamp.
A check you can physically hold.
This is what standing out feels like.
Recruiters: The next time you’re reaching out to a candidate, ask yourself…
What’s my version of a handwritten letter?
What’s the small unconventional thing that actually breaks pattern and gets attention?
Because whether it’s voicemail, mail, or brand experience — candidates respond to what feels different.
Full video above.
And shoutout to Uncle Tim for keeping the USPS in business.
